Avoid Making Your First Date too Exciting: 3 Downsides of Excessive Fun
Despite what most people will tell you, going on exciting events and adventures is not really a great idea for a first date. On the surface of it, an exciting date seems like an ideal setting, true. But there are subtle reasons why you should avoid taking that route.
Wondering why all the fuss about not making your first date too exciting? Here are the main reasons:
No face time
When you go on a mountain climbing trip or a rock concert or something equally exciting and fun with your partner, you do not really get much chance to spend face time with each other. That is to say that you rarely spend time looking at each other during such events. All experts agree that we make connections with other people by judging their non verbal expressions, and vice versa. In fact, non verbal communications, like eye contact, voice tone, proximity etc., are regarded to be so important that words almost mean nothing in comparison. So when you cannot even read each other’s body language and facial expressions during a date, how can you expect that something great will come out of it?
Lack of deep conversation
Even though conversations are not really as important as non verbal communication elements, still, the importance of words cannot be denied fully. In order to express our heart and mind, we humans need to rely on words in this civilized era. You cannot express everything using your body language, even though a lot can be done that way. The problem is, when your date involves an activity that is too fun or adventurous, you will find it hard to converse with each other about deep topics. Most conversations during such events tend to float on the surface level, and such conversations are terrible in making people fond of each other.
Wrong expectation setting
The last problem with choosing a very exciting event as a first date setting is that it starts the whole thing in a wrong way. The expectations get set very high from day one, and that is not a great place to be in when you really think about it. After a while, when you stop doing fun activities with your date, it will start to feel like something is missing. You cannot spend every day of your life dancing to some international artist’s beats, or jumping off airplanes. Can you?
