What Are The Effective Cures for Sleep Apnea?

So what really is sleep apnea and can this sleep apnea be cured? Basically, it is a certain sleeping disorder that affects one’s breathing when he/she is asleep. It is where one’s breathing repetitively starts and stops. If you still feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, or if you snore loudly, then there’s a possibility for you to have this sleeping disorder that is considered potentially dangerous.

There are two kinds of treatment or cure for sleeping apnea; one is self-help treatment, and the other is medical treatment. Self-help treatment is composed not only of lifestyle modifications but also of home remedies.

Quitting smoking cigarettes is one example of self-help treatment for this disorder. It is believed that smoking increases fluid retention and inflammation in the throat as well as the upper airway. Avoiding sleeping pills, sedatives, and alcoholic drinks is another treatment. They may cause relaxation of throat muscles and interferes with breathing. Having a regular sleeping schedule is another thing to maintain because it helps you to be relaxed and have a better sleep.

For the medical treatment, one may use supplemental oxygen or any breathing device that are used to deal with sleep apnea. There may also be an underlying medical circumstance that is causing the said disease, therefore it is also recommended to see a sleep doctor to help determine the core of the medical condition. Treating or curing that core will also result to an easier and faster cure of the sleep apnea. CPAP or Continue Positive Airflow Pressure is a certain machine that deliver air pressure through a mask that y one will wear over his/her nose while sleeping. With this machine, the air pressure is greater compared to the surrounding air. Is also helps to maintain the openness of the upper passage airway, preventing snoring and apnea. This CPAP is considered by many as the most preferable way of treating the said disorder.

There are also surgical help for this kind of ailment. The UPPP or Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty is a surgical procedure wherein tissues near the mouth and at the top of the nose are removed for they are causing vibrating and blocking air passages. Another surgery known is maxillomandibular advancement. In this surgery, the jaw is forwarded from the remainder of the face bones. The main idea for this is to enlarge the space behind the soft palate and the tongue. And there is also one called tracheostomy that is only done when the sleep apnea is in its worse life-threatening stage. Basically, the surgeon here will insert a plastic or metal tube through an opening made on the neck. It will be through this tube where the patient will breathe.
